Hospital bag must-haves for mama and baby

February 6, 2019 by Whitney Pflanzer

hospital bagMy hospital bag is finally packed

We’re anxiously awaiting baby boy #2’s arrival ANY DAY now and I’ve finally zipped up my hospital bag – full of all the essentials for me and babe. Admittedly, I’d forgotten a lot of things I brought the first time around (hello, pregnancy + mom brain!), so I turned to you all for help. And YOU GUYS ROCK! Here’s what you can find in my suitcase as we head to the hospital.

For Mama: Hospital bag essentials

  • Pillow
  • Blanket
  • Snack bars/snack mix
  • Portable phone charging bank with phone cord (so I’m not attached to a wall plug while snapping a million pics!)
  • Long, comfy robe
  • 2 pairs maternity leggings
  • 2 nursing night gowns (to be worn under my robe)
  • 2 nursing tanks
  • 1 comfy zip-up jacket
  • 1 tunic sweatshirt (to be worn when heading home, with leggings)
  • 2 nursing bras (no underwire)
  • Nursing pads
  • Nursing gel pads
  • Lanolin
  • Makeup
  • Flat iron
  • Hairbrush
  • 2 hair ties
  • Native deodorant
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste
  • Dry shampoo
  • Mini loofah
  • Body wash
  • Cetaphil lotion
  • Aquaphor lips
  • Face cleansing wipes
  • Towel (not a fan of harsh hospital towels)
  • Daily medications and prenatal vitamins

For Baby: Hospital bag essentials

  • Sign board with baby’s name (don’t ask, it’s a secret!)
  • 2 newborn gowns
  • 2 swaddles
  • 3 newborn footie pjs
  • 1 white onesie
  • Going home outfit
  • 3 pairs newborn socks
  • 2 pairs mittens
  • 2 hats
  • Boppy nursing pillow
  • Car seat cover
  • Car seat
  • 1 muslin blanket and 1 fleece blanket

And now we wait

I cannot believe it’s been six months since we announced our pregnancy! Time has really flown by, and it’s such a strange feeling to be *ready* for baby…but also slightly terrified of adjusting to life with a newborn again. I’m gonna be real – the newborn stage was really hard for me with Roman. But, at least I know what’s to come this go around! Hoping for a smoother adjustment this time, and I can’t tell you all how much I appreciate your love and encouragement as we await this little guy’s arrival.

Now, drop your guesses for his birthday – and birth weight in the comments below! Bragging rights for whoever is closest 🙂
